We all know Dory's [from Finding Nemo] life motto. And that my friends is where we currently are...we don't know our Reopening Plan or specific requirements but you truly can't just sit and wait. We've got to just keep swimming. Here's another list of suggested preparations for Fall:
Fall 2020 will start my 15th year in education but it may also seem like the 1st considering how different it all will be. I saw the best inspiration from @teachergoals on Twitter: "The upcoming school year might be one of the toughest years ever to be an educator. It also might be the most exciting and revolutionary year ever. Mindset will be critical!"
This blog post will be a guide to all of my Grafton Clipper teachers for over the summer:
I've put off updating our site even though through it all, my GHS Clippers have surely been innovating! Since I've last updated the site our school complex of over 2,100 students experienced a school fire that left us out of our building, with none of our own supplies, and sharing a neighboring high school only going to school on Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Saturdays. If that didn't cause us to "innovate" enough, on March 13th it was decided we would be out of school for 10 days because of the Coronavirus. During those 10 days GHS teachers tried Live Meetings in Teams, Gimkit games, virtual Kahoot, and even a Virtual Spirit Week. On Monday March 23th, it was announced by the Virginia Governor we will not be returning to school this academic year. We do not yet know what that means for courses, content, teachers, or students. All I know is my staff is dedicated, loving, brave, and yes innovative! FDR said, "Smooth seas never made a skilled sailor." Please let me know what I can do to support you, teachers, students, and learning. I am hear for you!

Do you have something in education you are super passionate about? Is there something that has changed the way you teach or how you think about your students? We’ve all heard of TedTalks…well apply to be part of the 2020 class of presenters for #EdTalks757.
On Wednesday May 6th, educators from around the tidewater area will come together to listen to our 2nd annual #EdTalks757 presenters. This event is held during Teacher Appreciation Week as a way to thank and encourage teachers right before testing season begins. Our hope is that at least 1 EdTalk will speak to you and motivate you to try something different during the last quarter of the school year. Check out the website if you are interested or would like to see how talks from last year for ideas. www.edtalks.weebly.com Let me tell you about this little design tool called Canva... teachers and students all over the building are using this website or app on their phone to create presentations, posters, infographics, and items for social media. Mr. Rolon's marketing students, Mrs. Conradi's photography students, Mrs. Zwirschitz's leadership class, and even our SCA students are using Canva! With Canva, you can create beautiful designs for work, school and play in minutes—no design skills necessary. Canva is easy to use and full of possibility: their mission is to allow you to design anything and publish anywhere. Canva is free (although there are more options, templates, graphics, fonts, etc with the paid version) and it only takes students a minute to sign up. I've attached the "How to Canva" below and even compared it to a rival, Adobe Spark. I hope that you will find a way to incorporate Canva into your classroom as the possibilities for creative thinking are endless.
