GHS's 2nd Annual Course Planning Event
In the year of pandemic learning we once again had to think outside of the box. If you scroll down this page you will see in January 2020 our counseling director, Mrs. Jenn Ericsson started a Course Planning Night in order to educate our students about their options in order for them to make better decisions regarding their own academic planning. It was a huge success and widely attended by the community, but we knew that would not work now with the current pandemic.
It is important to focus on the opportunities this pandemic has provided. Because a virtual event is now required, I was able to collaborate with Ms. Ericsson to put a new twist on our Course Planning Event. We collected 90 videos from our faculty showcasing courses from across all of our departments. Our students and families were presented with a website to access all of the videos. In addition, our school principal and counseling director recorded welcome videos. This ensured all students were presented with the same information and allowed families to access it all at their convenience. It is also a wonderful resource for new students or incoming freshmen. It allowed students to see and hear teachers they do not have access to in the current virtual learning environment. Even when we are allowed to host in-person events again, it will be tough to decide which format better suits our needs. Our 2nd Annual Course Planning Virtual Event was again a success, and then served as a model for other functions such as Read Across America. |
